I am using the coil method to create my sculpture. To do this I rolled clay into long strips and then scored and slipped it on to my base. After that I smoothed all the clay out. The most difficult part of this project was getting the right shape. At first, I made my coils too big which made my pot too fat. I had to restart to get the size that I wanted. I was successful in making it a pretty shape in the end. I plan to use a spoon to smooth out my piece and then I will be done. My original plan was to make my piece taller, but once I started I thought it looked better when it was shorter.
My groups project was an amphora vase. Amphora vases were used for the storage of liquids and solids such as grain. For my job I drew all of the pictures in pencil. Scraffito is a technique where you scratch of layers of pottery to create a design or image. A registers is a band of design around vases to separate pictures.
One sculptor that inspires me is Bennett Ewing. He is the CEO of Eyevan Tumbleweed Found Wood Sculpture and is also known by the name Eyevan Tumbleweed. He was born in Greater Boston, Massachusetts and is currently living in California. He has been collecting wood from North America and Ireland since 2001 to create wooden sculptures. His most popular work is his sculptures that look like faces. Bennet Ewing is an inspiring artist to me because he is very creative. I have seen a few wooden sculptures before but none that look as cool as his. He also inspires me because you can tell from his work that he is very talented.
